Where can I go in my motorhome?

When exploring, please keep to the roads. Driving in off-road conditions, including fire trails, beaches, sand, tracks, fields or paddocks, is not permitted. If the damage is incurred or towing required while driving in these out of bounds areas the customer will be liable for all costs. The only exception to this is a reasonable use of access roads to recognised commercial campgrounds.

Do you allow one way motorhome hires?

Star RV allows customers the flexibility to pick up and drop off the motorhomes between the [Auckland](https://648565as.cfd/nz/motorhome-hire-locations-nz/auckland), [Christchurch](https://648565as.cfd/nz/motorhome-hire-locations-nz/christchurch) and [Queenstown](https://648565as.cfd/nz/motorhome-hire-locations-nz/queenstown) branches in New Zealand.

The applicable one-way fee for your chosen vehicle and direction will get added as you put together a quote on our website.

Please note, all one-way hires must be approved by Star RV and are offered subject to availability.

Question 3

Can you drive North to South Island in New Zealand?

Accepted Answer

You will need to make a ferry crossing if you are travelling between the North and South Island in your motorhome. Ferry crossings take around three hours and are a fantastic way to enjoy breathtaking views while you sit back and relax.

There are a number of sailing times each day but it can get busy, particular in summer months so you may need to book well ahead of your intended journey day.

How do I pay for a toll road?

Accepted Answer

If you travel on a toll road or incur any tolls, we will charge any tolls and fees to your nominated credit card. You will also be charged a service fee of $3.45 each time your vehicle incurs a toll.

Cost of tolls vary but are generally around $5.20 - $5.60 (plus our service fee), and alternative routes are available if you do not wish to pay the toll.

There are currently three toll roads in New Zealand: the Northern Gateway Toll Road north of Auckland, and the Tauranga Eastern Link Toll Road, and the Takitimu Drive Toll Road, Tauranga.
